Gather your supplies for your peace sign tie-dye project.
Before you get started on this project, prewash the shirt that you’ll be dyeing, turn inside out, and lay the fabric flat on a protected work surface Prepare your tie-dye solutions by adding water to the dye bottles, filling to the neck. Replace the cap tightly and shake well until dye powder is fully dissolved.
To start the peace sign tie-dye technique, you’ll need to center your T-shirt. Fold the shirt in half vertically along the center. Mark the center spot with a washable marker, if needed.
Grab the inner bottom corner of the T-shirt while holding the center spot and fold upward toward the armpit of the T-shirt.
Fold the bottom corner of your T-shirt back in half at an angle along the center spot.
Grab the neck of the shirt and fold inward to meet the bottom corner of your shirt while holding at the center spot. These layers of fabric will be the sections of your peace sign!
To create a perfect circle segment, tie a string to your marker and hold the string at the center spot. Use the string as a guide as you draw the segment.
Pleat and fold your shirt along the drawn line, then tie with string.
Use the string to create two more equally spaced sections. Mark these sections with washable marker— they will outline your peace sign tie dye!
It’s time to add color to your peace sign tie-dye tee! For this project, we opted for a peaceful pastel palette. Apply black dye along the marked areas to outline the peace sign, then fill the peace sign itself with sky-blue dye. We added a soft lemon-yellow halo around the peace sign before filling the remainder of the shirt with a lovely lavender dye! Be sure to flip your project and apply dyes to the backside of your shirt as well.
Once you’ve finished applying dyes to your peace sign tie-dye tee, cover with plastic wrap or place your project into a sealable plastic bag. Allow the dyes to set for 6-8 hours or overnight for more vibrant results.
